Jo Barton
I am a qualified trainer and have 23 years experience in the voluntary and statutory sector. For 21 years my work incorporated advocacy in relation to discrimination claims which gives me a sound knowledge of equalities legislation to underpin the training and consultancy I now offer on a freelance basis.
Some people pay lip service to equalities and to providing a high quality service. For me both are a given and are integral to all my working practices.
I work to high quality standards and my training courses are designed for the customer whilst being accessible to learners. I use interactive training methods to engage my audience and to facilitate learning.
Due to spending 7 years working for the Disability Rights Commission, where I co- authored a training manual and delivered a national training programme, I have considerable experience in making reasonable adjustments and of making any sessions I deliver accessible to all.
Many of my courses inform learners about relevant legislation as this underpins their working practices. I always convey this information in a way that is not threatening and which encourages rather than stifles debate.
Having a flexible training style enables participants to learn at a pace that suits them. I know this works on my courses because I receive positive feedback from both learners and my customers. In the past twelve months whilst operating as a freelance trainer and consultant, I have been re –engaged by all of my customers to deliver further training courses.
Because I represented complainants in the Employment Tribunal for many years I have a practical working knowledge of employment and discrimination law which I now use to assist organisations by providing advice, developing and implementing policies or by devising training solutions. I also have experience in facilitation and have run workshops at conferences and events.
