GMCVO health project to be launched in the autumn

This autumn an exciting new project is being launched by GMCVO. Its aim will be to support both voluntary organisations and statutory health providers in improving healthcare through the best use of commissioning opportunities.
By working with primary care trusts (PCTs) and voluntary sector health and social care and infrastructure organisations this project will tackle barriers to commissioning and broker a more constructive relationship between healthcare commissioners and the voluntary sector. Key activities will include:
  • Raising awareness of the barriers to access faced by some service users and marginalised groups to inform the commissioning process.
  • Supporting and facilitating the establishment of borough level voluntary sector provider forums.
  • Sharing good practice in commissioning.
  • Providing information and resources to improve commissioners' knowledge and understanding of the voluntary sector.
  • Building the capacity of the voluntary sector to navigate the commissioning process.
The project is being funded by the ten Greater Manchester PCTs and will work closely with Greater Manchester health structures such as the Association of Greater Manchester PCTs and the Health Leadership Network.
The need for a project such as this was identified by a review of health inequalities in Greater Manchester conducted by the Audit Commission in 2006. To read this review please click on the link below.
