Greater Manchester to be given funding to improve public transport

The Transport Secretary, Ruth Kelly, has confirmed that Greater Manchester's Transport Innovation Fund (TIF) bid has been successful. This announcement paves the way for a £1.5 billion grant to improve public transport in the region and potentially the introduction of a 'congestion charge' to repay a further loan of £1.2 billion.

Details of the proposals and of the 14 week consultation period are available from the GM Future Transport website (link below). TRU will be compiling a response to the consultation, looking specifically at the impact of the proposals on voluntary sector organisations.
