Volunteer drivers expenses - feeling the pinch?
Petrol prices have increased, while mileage rates have remained static, an issue which is causing concern to many voluntary and community sector organisations at the moment. The rate, controlled by HM Revenue and Customs, was set at 40p per mile in 2002 and has not been increased, despite a recent review.
With unleaded petrol now costing around £1.20 per litre, compared to just 75p in July 2002, this is putting a strain on organisations that are particularly reliant on volunteer drivers, such as volunteer car schemes.
This issue is currently being followed by Volunteering England and the Community Transport Association, who are both actively lobbying for an increased rate.
