Wake Up Saddleworth!

Community and voluntary sector groups in rural/urban fringe areas often experience unique challenges. Published in April 2008, Wake Up Saddleworth! explores these issues using the rural parish of Saddleworth as a case study. In particular we look at how the voluntary and community sector might deliver services as part of the new Local Area Agreement process.

This project was funded by DEFRA and carried out by the Rural Resource Unit at GMCVO.

Round table discussion -
In May 2008, the report and the issues it addressed were discussed by a panel including community group representatives, the chief officer of the local CVS, Voluntary Action Oldham and a commissioning officer from Oldham Partnership.

“You’ve certainly stimulated some things that will have repercussions in the area where I’m working and I think for most people around the table.”
Bill Edwards, Oldham Partnership Steering Group Chair
