Bringing empty homes back into use
Registered charities and other not-for-profit organisations have been invited by the Government to apply for funding that will help bring empty homes and other types of property back into use.
Funding from the Empty Homes Community Grants Fund is for capital costs and can be used to fund eligible acquisitions, works and on-costs.
No minimum or maximum level of grant has been set, but grant rates are likely to vary depending on the region, the size and type of property and length of lease/acquisition.
Applicants should be able to show how they will identify empty properties, how these fit in with the local authority's wider housing strategy for the area, and how they would help to meet overall housing needs as identified by the local authority.
The deadline for applications is 17th April 2012.
This funding is part of the Government's Affordable Homes Programme to build up to 170,000 new affordable homes over the next four years. It is expected that up to £30 million of the total £100 million could be given over to community groups.
