Calling time at MYVP
In the summer of 2011, Manchester Youth Volunteering Project took the decision to close.
Unable to deliver its range of services with an ever-shrinking stream of funding, and having considered the other possible options, the organisation opted to wind up its affairs. But in taking this course of action, MYVP made sure that the needs of its service users were protected by transferring its assets to a newly-emerging volunteering organisation.
A brief account of the closing down process has been prepared for GMCVO by the organisation’s former manager – and the exemplary approach taken by the trustees and staff may provide some lessons for other organisations that find themselves in a similar position.
