Charity Commission seeks views on future strategy

Following the announcement of a funding cut of 33 per cent by 2014/15, the Charity Commission has launched a public consultation on its future role and focus. The charity regulator is seeking to review its key priorities for the next five years and develop a new strategy, which can be delivered within the resources available. The budget cut, announced in the recent Comprehensive Spending Review, will see the Commission’s funding fall from £29.3 million in the current year to £21.3 million in 2014/15.
Voluntary redundancy packages are being offered to all staff and some senior managers will be made redundant. Around 140 staff are expected to lose their jobs.
The consultation, which runs to 14th January 2011, is the first stage of the review and asks for comments on the key risks the Commission should seek to address, and the different expectations stakeholders have of the charity regulator.
