Asset Transfer Unit launched

A new advice line and website to promote the transfer of redundant land and property from local authorities to community groups was unveiled at the end of April.
The announcement was made at the official launch of the Asset Transfer Unit, first announced in last year’s community empowerment white paper.
Funded by DCLG, the Unit is being run by the Development Trusts Association (DTA) with support from the Local Government Association and Community Matters.
It has already supported 50 councils and more than 150 community organisations in developing joint plans for handing over disused land and property.
A further 22 authorities will receive support over the next year.
