Drop in VCS share of Lottery funding proposed

Changes to the share of money allocated to National Lottery good causes are proposed in a Government consultation document published in May.
Under the proposals, the BIG Lottery Fund’s (BLF) share would fall from 50 per cent to 46 per cent in 2011, and from 46 per cent to 40 per cent in 2012. The shares distributed to each of the arts, heritage and sport good causes would increase to 20 per cent.
The Conservatives have also stated they would prevent BLF from distributing any money to public bodies, which they claim will mean the total amount of money going to voluntary organisations will not drop. However, currently BLF is above its target of giving 80 per cent of its funds to voluntary sector groups.
The deadline for comments is 21st August 2010.
