Nearly 12,000 VCS groups in Greater Manchester, survey finds
There are around 11,725 voluntary and community groups in Greater Manchester, according to figures collected by Greater Manchester Voluntary Sector Support (GMVSS) recently.
Unsurprisingly, Manchester (2,259) contains the greatest number of VCS groups, while Rochdale (733) has the least.
Of the total, 5,325 groups are registered charities in Greater Manchester employing nearly 21,000 staff and with a total income of £1.23 billion.
The statistics assembled by GMVSS also include each district’s position in the Indices of Multiple Deprivation and its NI7 score (the contribution made by the local authority to the environment in which VCS organisations can operate successfully).
The figures are from a number of sources, including Guidestar, the National Survey of Third Sector Organisations and local infrastructure organisations.
The table of figures, plus data for 2005, can be seen on the attachment below.
