Consultation on policing reforms
Proposals to make the police in England and Wales more responsive, more accountable and more effective were published at the end of July.
A key feature of the proposed reforms is a clear role for everyone in cutting crime through beat meetings, neighbourhood watch schemes and voluntary groups.
Other measures include electing policing and crime commissioners to hold police forces to account and to strengthen the bond between the police and the public, and greater collaboration between police forces to increase public protection and save money.
The deadline for the consultation is 20th September 2010.
The attachment below provides a short briefing on the proposals.
