Premises and the Compact

A brief guide to how the Compact and other public authority duties can affect voluntary and community organisations that either rent or use council-owned premises, has been produced by the Empowering the Voluntary Sector project.
The guide (see attachment below) is a short introduction on how the how the Compact, public law, and equalities duties are relevant and can be used where decisions are taken that affect groups’ use of premises. It is intended to help groups know where they stand, what their rights are, and how they may be able to challenge unfair decisions.
Empowering the Voluntary Sector (EVS) is a three-year project funded by the Big Lottery Fund that brings together NCVO’s Compact Advocacy programme, NAVCA, and the Public Law Project, in an innovative venture to support voluntary and community organisations on a whole range of decisions taken by public bodies.

♦ Two half-day training workshops to help voluntary and community organisations use the Compact and public law to hold public bodies accountable for unfair decisions and actions that they may take are being held at GMCVO on 21st July.
