Sustainable Travel at the heart of Greater Manchester's future economy
GMCVO and the Greater Manchester Community Transport Forum have been supporting transport leaders' bid to put sustainable travel at the centre of Greater Manchester's ambition to deliver an inclusive, low carbon economy.
Building on the successful £4.9m bid for the Commuter Cycling initiative, Transport for Greater Manchester are now seeking a further £45m of support from the Local Sustainable Transport Fund (LSTF) for a wider package of low carbon travel solutions to support economic growth and inclusion.
Measures include making walking and cycling a practical travel choice for many more commuters, learners, shoppers and local residents; using 'smart' technology to transform travel information, ticketing and marketing; and supporting more sustainable travel choices through travel planning & advice; and developing the capacity of local not-for-profit community transport operators to provide enhanced connections to employment, education and service centres from deprived and isolated communities.
GMCVO and the community transport Forum are key partners in this latter area, supporting the sector to engage in more collaborative work with TfGM, local authorities and the health sector, develop new services and markets, and helping them adopt the standards within their Quality Framework.
The shortlist for successful bids to develop detailed proposals is expected in July; if accepted, funding might be confirmed in summer 2012.
