Greater Manchester Centre for Voluntary Organisation

About our Work

How we work

The TRU aims to help people and communities meet their travel and transport needs, and improve access and connections between people, places, services and jobs.  We do this by:

  • Providing information, advice, support, skills and tools to people, groups and communities concerned with travel and transport issues
  • Providing an intelligence function for Transport for Greater Manchester about transport issues as they arise in local communities of place and interest
  • Enabling the voice of the voluntary sector and local communities to be heard in the development of transport policy, infrastructure and service provision, by facilitating engagement with consultations, networking and debate
  • Building cross-sector partnership and collaborative working that can produce practical solutions to travel and transport issues, particularly around unmet 'social' transport needs
  • Building the capability and capacity of the Community transport sector through supporting the development of the Greater Manchester Community Transport Forum (GMCTF)
  • We also work with the University of Manchester, the Chartered Institute for Logistics and Transport and Transport for Greater Manchester to deliver an annual programme of seminars on the transport issues of the day.  These seminars create an opportunity to hear about contemporary and emerging topics in transport policy and provision, discuss the issues involved, and contribute to the wider transport debate.
