Greater Manchester VCSE Mental Health Forum - Extraordinary meeting

Thursday 12th September 2019

The main focus of this meeting was to explore how the existing VCSE representation process can be evolved within Greater Manchester Mental Health infrastructure to embed more sector leadership and to better utilise the expertise that exists across the ten boroughs (10GM) that make up Greater Manchester. Delegates heard from Sandy Bering, Lead Commissioner for Mental Health at the Greater Manchester Health and Social Care Partnership as well as taking part in two workshop discussions about a proposed new representation structure for the VCSE sector to better engage with the Greater Manchester’s Mental Health and Wellbeing Strategy.

Greater Manchester Mental Health VCSE Forum

Wednesday 12th July 2018

GM VCSE Mental Health Forums link directly with the implementation of the Greater Manchester Mental Health Strategy and have been designed to ensure that the fullest range of VCSE partners, including those involved with delivering emotional wellbeing and mental health support (including dementia support) to children, young people, adults and families across Greater Manchester have a chance to understand, implement and influence the strategy. This includes inclusion, transparency and accountability across the GM VCSE sector.

The July Forum provided delegates with updates relating to mental health practice and provided an opportunity to take part in discussion groups about the activities and issues being discussed by the strategic mental health boards in GM relating to dementia, adults and children/young people mental health. Attendees were also afforded the opportunity to attend surgeries run by the VCSE Mental Health representatives to those boards and to feedback on issues they would like to be raised/discussed at future board meetings.

Greater Manchester Mental Health VCSE Forum

Wednesday 18th April 2018

At the inaugural Greater Manchester Mental Health Forum held in December 2017, the process of getting VCSE representatives onto the various governance boards within the Greater Manchester Mental Health Structures was first introduced. After having received many high quality Expressions of Interest, these representatives were appointed and in place.

This forum event was designed for delegates to learn more about the thematic boards at which these representatives sat, to receive an update from health and social care colleagues (with a focus on localities) as well as having the opportunity to meet the new VCSE Mental Health Board representative and to network with peers from the VCSE sector.

Greater Manchester VCSE Health & Social Care Assembly - Mental Health

Tuesday 25th July 2017

The Greater Manchester Mental Health and Wellbeing Strategy was adopted in Spring 2016. The aim of this Assembly event was to inform the GM VCSE sector what has happened so far to date and what can be done for the sector to influence and play a part in the shaping the Mental Health and Wellbeing agenda in Greater Manchester.

The aim of this event was to create pathways for investment to frontline voluntary, community and faith groups, to support people to maintain mental wellbeing, recover quickly and, when needed, for people to gain access to the best services for more formal help.

First Greater Manchester Mental Health VCSE Forum

12th December 2017

This was the first meeting of the GM Mental Health VCSE (Voluntary, Community, Social Enterprise) Forum, linking directly with the implementation of the Greater Manchester Mental Health Strategy. The meetings have been designed to ensure that the fullest range of VCSE partners, involved with delivering emotional wellbeing and mental health support (including dementia support) to children, young people, adults and families across Greater Manchester have a chance to understand, influence and implement the strategy. Also, to ensure inclusion, transparency and accountability across and within the VCSE sector.

The first forum meeting focused upon the Greater Manchester (GM) wide elements of the £134m GM Mental Health investment proposition that was agreed at the end of July 2017; it was a chance to ensure that VCSE sector colleagues were represented across all elements of the governance structure in place to ensure the delivery of the GM Mental Health Strategy. The event was also an opportunity to discuss, in detail, specific prioritised areas within the strategy. Delegates were encouraged to come along with ideas, approaches and mechanisms that would enable the implementation of the strategy to take place by ensuring that the valuable contributions by the VCSE sector, clearly recognised as being critical for success, were linked in and realised.

The outcomes and ideas from this event were also used to inform the VCSE sector input into the Greater Manchester Mental Health Improvement Collaborative event held on the 13th December 2017.
