Investment amount: £28,000
Golden Centre of Opportunities, based in South Manchester, use a practical approach to provide holistic support to local people, whether they struggle with English literacy and language, or lack confidence and motivation.
This includes support and training such as employment advice, guidance and practical support, English as a Second Language (ESOL) courses, welfare benefit advice and IT support.
Prior to investment, they made income through delivering training courses, but the Covid-19 pandemic impacted their delivery, and a lack of other funding meant they would have been unable to continue trading as an organisation.
In 2022, they received a £28,000 investment from GMCVO to support with the general running costs of the Centre, including staff salaries and rent. The investment meant they were able to focus on running the Centre through a very turbulent time.
The investment has made them more sustainable as a charity since it provided much need stability. Abdi Mohomed, Centre Manager, noted that, “without the amount received we could have not continued with being an organisation.”
Thanks to the investment, the Centre have been able to continue providing much needed support to local people. They supported Amal who moved to the UK 3 years ago. She said, “Thank you Golden Centre, you are a Centre that helps people in every aspect of issues they are going through”.
Following investment, GMCVO have continued to support the Centre with additional funding information and general support as a trading charity.
