Investment amount: £50,000
Society Support CIC supports and houses over 50 vulnerable adults who have experienced issues such as homelessness, substance misuse, and domestic violence.
They currently maintain 11 properties which offer supported accommodation in self-contained or shared accommodation throughout Wigan and Leigh borough.
In January 2024, they received £50,000 investment from the Enterprising Communities Fund which provides investment to help organisations grow their activity, increasing their impact.
Prior to receiving investment, their Director, Jason, was working over capacity to provide much needed support. Their funding sources were unreliable and inconsistent, so they were struggling to meet the ever-increasing demand for accommodation and support.
The investment has enabled them to increase their staff team, meaning their support provision is more effective and meaningful. Society Support recognise the importance of good quality accommodation in providing stability, but it’s the additional support they provide that helps individuals reintegrate in community life. They provide support across a wide range of issues, including employment, mental wellbeing, money management, substance misuse, general life skills such as cooking and cleaning, attending appointments, and more, so it is important they have the capacity to meet need.
“The investment has helped us to reach help more vulnerable people”
The investment has also enabled them to grow their work in the wider community, supporting drug users, for example, liaising with police, probation, housing, where necessary. They also continue to work with a range of organisations and agencies to enhance their own support services.
Society Support CIC hope to invest in more properties so they can continue to grow what they do. As a Community Interest Company, they reinvest their profits into the organisation. Find out more about their work on their website.
