VCSE organisations with knowledge of the issues of specific marginalised groups, or experience of working to reduce inequalities in Greater Manchester, are invited to meet Prof Kate Pickett, the Chair of the new Greater Manchester Independent Inequalities Commission.
For further details and list of commissioners see The Commission will make recommendations to the GM Mayor and the ten Local Authority leaders in March 2021. It is expected their report will influence GM policy, and its implementation will be overseen by the new GM Equalities Board.
Some will remember Kate as co-author of The Spirit Level, Why More Equal Societies Almost Always Do Better
Kate will talk briefly about the role, purpose and membership of the Commission, and her personal views on inequality and its remedies. She will then put some questions, about which VCSE participants may have knowledge, which will be the basis for an interactive discussion.
This will not be the only opportunity to provide evidence to the Commission, but it will allow VCSE equalities experts to contribute key insights early in the process.
Please note this meeting is open only to Greater Manchester VCSE organisations.
Once registered you will be sent a zoom link two days prior to the event.
