In March 2021, the Greater Manchester Independent Inequalities Commission published its report ‘The Next Level: Good lives for all in Greater Manchester’. With a diverse membership of prominent thinkers, the Commission reviewed evidence from a ‘call for ideas’ from local people, academic research, local equality programmes and insight from the business, public, voluntary and community sectors, to recommend new policy, activity and ways of working. Its independence has allowed the Commission the chance to challenge existing approaches, explore powers and levers for change, and set out a new direction for tackling inequality.
The report is a platform from which Greater Manchester can build to tackle the growing inequalities which exist in the economy and society. Although commissioned by the Mayor of Greater Manchester and the Combined Authority (GMCA), the report is published as a call to action for any organisation which could take action – including funders of the voluntary, community and social enterprise sector.
Adrian Bates from the GMCA will provide a briefing on the work of the Commission and lead discussion around how members of the Funders Forum might respond to the report, what they are already doing to align funding strategies around tackling inequality, and what more they might do in Greater Manchester to drive forward this agenda.
Briefing sessions hosted by the GM Funders Forum are a chance for members to hear more about topics that are important to them to help in their work.
This briefing is for members of the GM Funders Forum. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org if you are interested in joining the Forum.
