Greater Manchester Strategy Equalities Engagement Sessions: Police, Crime, Fire and Criminal Justice

A chance for members of the voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) sector to shape the ambitions of the city-region in the aftermath of the pandemic.

The Greater Manchester Strategy (GMS) is the overarching strategic document for the whole of the city-region, providing a shared vision, direction and actions to be delivered.

The GMS is owned and adopted by the public, private and VCSE sectors. The current GMS was launched in 2017, and was due to be refreshed in 2020, but this was paused due to the pandemic.

The one year Living with Covid Resilience Plan  has provided strategic direction of activities delivered across the GM system over the last year, but work is now underway to refresh the Greater Manchester Strategy.

It is being significantly shaped by the Independent Inequalities Commission report, which proposes putting “wellbeing and equality goals at the heart of the Greater Manchester Strategy”.

The Greater Manchester Equality Alliance (GM=EqAl) and GMCVO are hosting a series of engagement sessions in July to assist this process working with GMCA, Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) and the Health & Social Care Partnership.

They will bring together those tasked with writing specific areas of the strategy with people who have a clear vision of the approaches and commitments that are required if Greater Manchester is to make serious progress in redressing inequality over the next five years.

The sessions will take place via Zoom and run for 90 minutes. Each will follow the same format and you may join as many of the sessions as you like.

If you wish to contribute to the discussion but cannot attend, please email  letting her know which theme/s you are interested in.

All the sessions will cover:

  • Overview of the Greater Manchester Strategy Refresh

  • Overview of the Policy Portfolio

  • Introduction to current ways of work – Public Service Reform principles

  • Discussion groups to explore:

    • What do different people face in terms of their access, experience and outcomes (in relation to this theme?)

    • How can we overcome these inequalities? – What can be changed, developed or embedded through the refresh of the Greater Manchester Strategy

    • How will we know we are making a difference?

Please register to receive more information, background reading and question prompts for each theme.
