Target Audience: Voluntary sector and early career researchers that have little or no experience of presenting their research at academic conferences. Delegates are likely to be researchers in the voluntary sector or PhD students.
The workshop will act as a feeder session into the New Researchers stream at the annual Voluntary Sector and Volunteering Research Conference, which is jointly organised by NCVO and the Voluntary Sector Studies Network. This year the conference will take place in Sheffield on 10th – 11th September.
Our feeder session will help those who would like to submit their work to the main research conference to get themselves in shape for presenting to an academic audience.
The aim of the workshop is:
- To prepare new researchers to present at academic conferences, including the annual Voluntary Sector and Volunteering Research Conference.
- To offer delegates an often rare opportunity to have in-depth discussion on their research - at whatever stage they are at - with fellow new researchers and senior academics/researchers in the voluntary sector.
There will be an opening presentation on how to present research at an academic conference and a closing presentation on “Demystifying dissemination.” However, participants will spend the majority of the day in small groups, which will be chaired by an established academic/researcher in the voluntary sector. Each participant will have 10 minutes to talk through their research (whether this is research findings or a just a research design). 20 minutes will then be dedicated to the group discussing the research and asking questions/offering advice etc.
To enable the small group leaders and other participants to prepare for the workshop, delegates should submit between 1-5 sides of A4 about their research to email@example.com by 5 pm on Sunday, March 30. This material will be circulated to the other members in their workshop groups to read in preparation of the day.
