A Toolkit for Inclusion in Practice
This toolkit provides 24 real case studies illustrating different ways of equalities approach to programme design. The toolkit is supported by a short briefing which summarises the approaches.
Taking an equalities approach means placing people and communities who are usually on the margins at the centre when designing and developing programmes and projects.
The toolkit can be read as an independent document or used as a companion document to our recent practical model for ensuring equality in community development work, A Spatial Approach to Working with Marginalised Communities.
We hope the toolkit will be useful for:
- Recipients of funding pots looking to improve their local neighbourhood.
- Council officers, voluntary or community sector workers or members of local communities working to develop work in place.
- Funders and local authority commissioners designing place-based programmers or intervention.
- Equalities organisations looking to influence decision makers.

These documents were developed by our Equalities Board team based at the LGBT Foundation following a review of the Ambition for Ageing programme from an equalities perspective.
