The Care Quality Commission (CQC) have launched the second spike of their #DeclareYourCare campaign focusing on people from a Black and ethnic minority (BME) background. They are highlighting how people from a BME background are less likely than those from a non-BME background to raise concerns about the standard of care they receive, especially mental health care.

The Voluntary Organisations Disabilities Group (VODG) represents not-for-profit providers of services and support to disabled people. Their newly published report titled 'Above and Beyond: How voluntary sector providers of disability support add value to communities' explores how innovative not-for-profit organisations consistently and proactively meet gaps in support, particularly as austerity undermines existing provision

This year the Queen’s Award results were announced on the 2nd June - the anniversary of Her Majesty’s Coronation. Greater Manchester enjoyed another successful year with 35 organisations being awarded - click here to view the list. Congratulations to all awardees. Nominations for this year are now open with a deadline of 13th September 2019 for award in 2020. We encourage any groups doing volunteer work that provides a social, economic or environmental service to the local community to seek out nominations .

DHSC has launched the Carers Innovation Fund. The fund aims to support accessible, carer-friendly communities and public services and also seeks to provide evidence on effective interventions to support carers. Applications to recieve funding are welcomed from a mix of sectors, including the voluntary and community sector, small and medium enterprises (SMEs)

On the 8th July 2019, the Greater Manchester Health and Social Care Partnership is meeting with their GM wide patient reference group to provide an update of work undertaken so far in relation to Improving Specialist Care Programme across GM, to share next steps and provide an opportunity to answer audience questions. They would like to extend an invitation to the GM VCSE sector and have therefore reserved 10 places for organisations who work with Protected Characteristic Groups/Communities to attend.

The University of Manchester are conducting a blueprint study which aims to develop a model for high quality service design for children and young people experiencing common mental health problems. Part of the study involves a mapping of all services across England and Wales that are currently delivered to establish current provision and the University is keen to ensure the map incorporates VCSE sector services involved in this work.

The GM Health and Social Care Partnership wish to appoint an independent facilitator to provide support to the GM Adult Mental Health Service User Network and ensure that engagement into all ten GM localities is successfully coordinated into the GM Mental Health programme. The independent facilitator will be tasked with exploring forums and groups across GM to ensure engagement of experts by experience into the GM Mental Health programme is inclusive of the range of MH conditions across the ten localities.

Third Sector Trends is a longitudinal study of the third sector in the North of England led by Durham University. The longest running aspect of the study is a biennial survey of the sector which is being done for the fifth time in 2019. The reports inform voluntary and community organisations, cooperatives, community businesses and social enterprise about the wellbeing and direction of the sector, and are also widely used by policy makers and funding bodies.
