At GM=EqAl's July Working Group, we were joined by colleagues from GMCA and TfGM talking about 'What is GM and why does it matter?' to support GM=EqAl members to build our soft power as an alliance. The discussion also touched on the devolution deal from central government to Greater Manchester, including the single settlement agreement that covers economic development, housing, work and skills, transport and decarbonisation. At next month's Working Group meeting colleagues from GM Fire and Rescue team will talk through the 5-year GM Fire Plan, with a particular focus on what this means for communities.

Researchers at the University of Manchester are exploring opinions on self-testing for cervical screening in communities experiencing racial inequality. They want to reach people who identify as Black, Asian or with other communities experiencing racial inequality. This project aims to explore the acceptability of a self-sample, in the form of a vaginal swab or a urine sample, for cervical screening in ethnically diverse groups.  This has the potential to increase the number of individuals screened and save lives.

This Health Services Safety Investigations Body (HSSIB) report identifies that online tools are not always accessible and easy to use, and do not always allow general practices to collect the information they need to make decisions about a patient’s care. It concludes that patient safety must be prioritised as online consultation tools in general practice continue to be implemented. 

The Independent Scrutiny & Oversight Board annual feedback report (2023/2024) looks at the main challenges stopping the Police Race Action Plan (PRAP) from working well.
