We Lead For Legacy is a high level leadership programme for future and current leaders from racially marginalised communities, brought to you by Greater Manchester Combined Authority, in partnership with She Leads For Legacy, Flourish Together and Reform Radio.

This programme is designed to offer participants first-hand knowledge of public appointees' roles and responsibilities, offering insight into the systems and procedures of public bodies, alongside building awareness, confidence and skills to enable participation in civic and community roles, and bring unique voices and lived experiences to the forefront.

Ahmed Iqbal Ullah RACE Centre and Education Trust have launched a call-to-action, asking people of African and Caribbean heritage in Manchester to tell them how they want to see their histories recorded, explored, shared and celebrated. They will build a Manifesto out of these responses and share this widely, with the hope that it will be used by Manchester’s heritage and cultural sector, educators, statutory and voluntary organisations and individuals as well as informing their work on Black histories. 

Tackling Root causes upstream of Unhealthy Urban Development (TRUUD) are looking at how urban centres can be planned to reduce health inequalities. The project looks to count the cost of poor health, work with communities to communicate the issues they face and map out the decision-making process in creating urban centres in Bristol and Manchester.

They would be grateful to be put in touch with people facing any of these issues who would initially have a confidential conversation with them on the phone, but with a view to possibly taking part in the film if they would like to, but there is absolutely no commitment to take part.

Research suggests that Muslims are more likely than the general population to be exposed to a range of social and economic risk factors and determinants for poor mental health, including poverty, financial precarity and inadequate housing. It is estimated that 40% of the Muslim population in England live in the most deprived local areas and a third live in overcrowded homes. When seeking support, Muslims can face stigma, discrimination and a lack of faith-responsive services. Only 2.6% of Muslims referred to NHS Talking Therapies completed their treatment course in 2021-2022. Muslims also experienced lower recovery rates than other religious groups.

 This fact sheet, developed in partnership with the Woolf Institute, brings together the latest available evidence on Muslim mental health across the life course. It highlights the urgent need to tackle the stark inequalities in Muslims’ access to, experience of and outcomes from mental health services. This will require the NHS working closely with community groups to roll out more culturally- and faith-informed mental health support, and better data collection to improve our understanding of the challenges and progress in this area.
