Emergency Grants for GM BAME Communities - Micro Grants

Purpose

Grants of £50-£1000 to fund small BAME led VCSE organisations to respond to the needs of their communities during the COVID-19 pandemic. Activities must be expected to end by 31st March 2021.

What we can fund

These grants can fund a number of different things:

  • Services and activities that support the health and wellbeing of members of vulnerable BAME communities in GM

  • Foodbanks and projects working to combat hardship caused by the pandemic

  • Organisations or informal groups that have been specifically established to respond to the crisis

  • Volunteer costs for new and existing organisations responding to the effect of the crisis

  • Additional costs of working remotely and adapting services delivered in the wider community

  • Support for organisations that provide support for vulnerable groups within BAME communities to counter the loss of income and fundraising which can be directly linked to the COVID-19 pandemic

What we can’t fund

There are a number of costs we cannot fund; the main ones are listed here:

  • Payments for activities of a political or exclusively religious nature;

  • Payments reimbursed or to be reimbursed by other public or private sector grants;

  • Cost incurred before the grant award

  • One off events or workshops that aren’t part of a bigger project

Eligibility

Who can apply:

  1. Voluntary, Community or Social Enterprise (VCSE) organisations operating in Greater Manchester for the benefit of Greater Manchester residents (If you are not constituted you must have a constituted organisation willing to accept responsibility for managing your grant).

  2. VCSE organisations that exists primarily to serve the BAME community, or a section of that community, with decision making led by members of that community.

  3. Must either have a bank account requiring two signatures in the name of your organisation or in the name of the organisation managing the grant for you.

  4. Your organisation`s income must not be more than £10,000 in your most recent full financial year

  5. Organisations must have appropriate safeguarding policies and procedures in place (please let us know if you need help to develop these)

Criteria

About your project and application:

  1. Applications should be in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and will need to show how they have taken into account government guidance about keeping people safe.

  2. Activities funded need to be expected to end by 31st March 2021.

  3. Application must be for at least one of the below:

    • Services and activities that support the health and wellbeing of members of vulnerable BAME communities

    • Foodbanks and projects working to combat hardship caused by the pandemic

    • Volunteer costs for new and existing organisations responding to the effect of the crisis

    • Additional costs of working remotely and adapting services delivered in the wider community

    • Support for organisations that provide support for vulnerable groups within BAME communities to counter the loss of income and fundraising which can be directly linked to the COVID-19 pandemic

  4. You will need to tell us:

  • Why you are applying for the funding and why you need it at this particular time

  • How much the project will cost and provide an itemised breakdown that relates to the proposed activity  

Decision making

You will receive a decision on your application within 3 weeks of submitting. However, we may get in touch before then if we aren’t clear on any aspect of your application.
