Ageing Better: The importance of person-centred approaches

Thu, 19 May 2022

11:00 - 12:30

Drawing on learning from the Ageing Better programme, this event will explore what is meant by taking a person-centred approach, the practical challenges, as well as why the approach is so important in working with people aged over 50 to reduce social isolation and loneliness.

Person-centred support focuses on the individual, taking the time to establish what they want to do or achieve rather than making any assumptions. It highlights the importance of understanding the impact of social isolation and loneliness on that individual, identifying the barriers for them in making connections and then in exploring what they want to achieve and also jointly the steps needed to achieve a change.

At this event, we will share practical examples and tips from the Ageing Better partnerships on the key approaches, tenets and ways of working around building and delivering a person-centred approach when supporting older people.

Our speakers, from Ageing Better partnership areas across England will discuss:

The context for and advantages of adopting a person-centred approach
What are the key elements of a person-centred approach
The challenges experienced when designing and delivering person-centred approaches
How to support staff to deliver effective person-centred approaches
There’ll also be lots of opportunities for discussion and space to share experiences, challenges and solutions.
