Greater Manchester Equality Alliance (GM=EqAl) is a coalition of voluntary, community, faith and social enterprise (VCFSE) organisations and individuals drawn from a wide range of communities of experience and identity across Greater Manchester.
Working in alliance with VCFSE, public and private sector individuals and organisations, GM=EqAl serves to connect communities to policy makers, and vice versa, to assist with strategic equality and diversity work within the sub-region.
GM=EqAl takes an intersectional approach, recognising that each individual experiences marginalisation in unique ways due to how multiple forms of inequality or disadvantage compound exclusion. By bringing together a diverse range of voices in a pan-equalities space, GM=EqAl channels multiple perspectives to develop solutions through dialogue.

The GM=Equality Alliance is hosted by GMCVO and funded/delivered as part of the commitments of the GM VCSE Accord.
Why are we doing it?
Inequalities of power, resource, health and opportunity are entrenched in the UK, and getting worse. Yet with the right levers, insights and priorities in place, Greater Manchester could turn this around. Knowledge of what is not working, what is needed and what would what get us there, exists within the communities which bear the brunt of inequality, and the organisations which support them.
GM=EqAl seeks to channel the expertise of grassroots groups, equality organisations and inclusion champions into decision making at the highest levels. We want to see transformational change in the way that ambitions are articulated, resources prioritised and outcomes monitored, and in the diversity of the governance structures themselves.
