Greater Manchester’s Hidden Talent is a youth employment programme led by GMCVO and co-funded by The National Lottery Community Fund and Greater Manchester Combined Authority.

Building on learning from the Greater Manchester Talent Match programme, it is a two-year investment (2019-2021) creating greater cohesion within communities by helping hidden young people aged 18-25 progress towards employment and improve their self-esteem and wellbeing.

Hidden young people are not in employment, education or training and not claiming the benefits to which they are entitled.

Greater Manchester’s Hidden Talent is a partnership of voluntary, private and public sector organisations, led by GMCVO.

Success is being achieved through the delivery of strength-based and holistic support provided by Talent Coaches employed by community-based partners.

The programme’s intended long-term impacts are:

  • To influence contemporary and future programmes to take into account the needs of all young people, including hidden young people.
  • To work with Greater Manchester Combined Authority and local authorities to Work with GMCA around the tracking of young people who are NEET to ensure these processes include hidden young people.
  • To help employers implement strategies to improve recruitment and attainment of young people.
  • To work with Jobcentres, encouraging them to adapt their offer to alter young people’s perceptions of services and make them more accessible.

GM's Hidden Talent partner, Greater Manchester Youth Network, supports young people to play an active role in shaping the design and delivery of the programme by hosting the Youth Panel. These are young people who have experienced their own barriers to employment and who participate in activities that inform, influence and lead on various aspects of the programme.

42nd Street, also a programme partner, is leading on the provision of mental health and wellbeing support, advice and guidance to young people and delivery partner organisations.
