Manchester Focus Group – Charity Futures and Giving Evidence’s Research Consultation

This consultation aims to identify the questions about charity and philanthropy that charities, funders and donors want academic research to answer. Attending the Manchester focus group will provide a unique opportunity for you - the end users of research - to influence the research agenda.

  • Date: Friday 29th June
  • Time: 12pm - 2.30pm
  • Venue: The Etihad Stadium
  • Booking: Please contact to express an interest in attending

Charity Futures, the new sector think tank led by Sir Stephen Bubb, are in the process of carrying out a major consultation to find out the topics on which donors and charity leaders most want more research to help them in their vital work. Clearly this is essential for ensuring that charitable activity and giving can be based on sound evidence.

The focus group itself, which you are invited to attend, will explore how you currently conceptualise and use charity and philanthropy research. In particular it will focus on where you think there are research questions or evidence gaps that, if addressed, could inform and support your practice.

Giving Evidence will run the consultation through a ‘crowd-sourcing’ process, which invites input from any charity, foundation, public or private donor in the United Kingdom. The project is supported by a distinguished advisory group of funders, private donors, researchers, charity leaders and umbrella bodies.

The output will be a prioritised list of research questions which donors and charities have raised. It will be published and available to anybody, including academics, researchers, research funders, donors, charities and policy bodies interested in charities and philanthropy.

This event is aimed at private donors, institutional donors and charities.
