Caring, Working, Living publish Support Agency Directory

A GMVCO project has published a directory listing of voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) and public sector organisations across Greater Manchester that provide employment support as well as welfare; housing; finance; caring; and mental health and wellbeing support.

Caring Working Living (CWL) ran from June 2019 to May 2020 to support parents and carers looking to return to paid employment after a break of at least a year due to parental and/or caring responsibilities (Returners).

Over the course of the project, the CWL team have researched and compiled information about both VCSE and public sector organisations across Greater Manchester that provide support. This enabled us to signpost parents and carers who referred themselves to the project for support with employment (Returners), to a range of other organisations that could also meet their needs. Many Returners have asked us to provide information about organisations that offer support with financial issues, including benefits.

Greater Manchester is home to nearly 16,000 voluntary organisations, community groups and social enterprises working to improve the lives of citizens. It’s likely that many of us are unaware of all the work that they do in our own communities.

We have shared our Directory with a range of community organisations;  housing associations, and local Councillors from across the region. We have also shared it with the Jobcentre Plus, to enable their work coaches to have a wider range of information available with which to support their customers. We also shared the Directory with the employers that we have worked with, as the information about carers’ organisations could be used to support the many carers that are balancing work and care in the region. We know that Returners value this aspect of the work that we do:

“The CWL project already provides excellent links to organisations in this area (wellbeing and emotional and mental health support) but perhaps they can also encourage potential employers to link up with those agencies so that they can gain a better knowledge of the needs of carers and Returners”.

The current situation with the lockdown caused by Coronavirus has impacted our communities in many different ways. We are pleased to be able to share our Directory at this time, and hope that the links to organisations that provide support with finance, and mental health and wellbeing are useful both now and in the future.
