Expressions of Interest invited to join GM VCSE Mental Health Leadership Group

UPDATE: The deadline for the submission of expressions of interest for some of the positions below have been extended. No further expressions of interest for the locality positions OR the Priority Leads for Equalities and System Change positions will now be accepted.

Since its inception in November 2017, the VCSE Mental Health Leadership group has become an integral part of the Greater Manchester Mental Health structures. It has played a vital role during COVID-19 as a connector to the issues being felt by the people that the sector support (and the organizations within it). It also played a major role in the development of the Community Mental Health Transformation bid.

The leadership group is made up of:

  • 10 Locality leaders, one from each of the ten boroughs that make up Greater Manchester

  • 10 Priority Leads, two for each of our five priority areas (Equalities, System Change, Voice, Holistic Care and Radical Commissioning).

  • 1 Chair, which is currently Simone Spray of 42nd Street.

Recent developments (the establishment of the System Lead for VCSE Integration role, the proposed changes to the partnership’s mental health infrastructure, the refreshed role for the VCSE within the ICS and local delivery and the responses to both the NHS white paper and GM Inequalities Commission) have led to a third evolution of the group and a renewed focus on our five existing priorities. All of this means that we are now seek seven new members of the groups. The vacant post are:

  • Locality leads for Bolton, Manchester, Rochdale, Tameside & Glossop and Trafford

  • Priority Leads for Equalities and System Change.

The group meets monthly via zoom and there is remuneration of £2,000 per year for the employing organization. The time commitment varies enormously, and we are reticent to put a stringent figure on it. There is the monthly meeting and the opportunity to represent the group (and therefore the sector) on a number of key Greater Manchester boards and meetings. Priority leads will be expected to co-chair a working group focusing on their area and Locality lead will be expected to lead VCSE forums and groups in their locality. However, in the end, the level and intensity of commitment will be up to the applicant. The key facets we seek are the ability to lead and the ability to see beyond your organization (we call this organizational agnosticism).

To be considered you must currently hold a senior/executive position in a VCSE organization that supports people’s mental health and wellbeing within Greater Manchester.

Forms should be returned via e-mail to kat.rado-barnes@gmcvo.org.uk by the deadline given for each position. Selection will take place during August and the first week of September. We expect to be in a position to inform all applicants of the outcome of the process by Monday 13th September at the latest. Induction meetings will take place during September, with the first formal meeting of this new incarnation of the group happening the week beginning the 4th of October.

To discuss further the opportunities on offer, please contact Stewart Lucas at s.lucas@mind.org.uk. Please also promote these opportunities to your contacts and networks.
