A new portfolio highlights the different ways the voluntary, community, faith and social enterprise (VCFSE) sector is creating a fairer and more inclusive economy in Greater Manchester by balancing profit with purpose.
Research from Social Enterprise UK states that there are around 6,812 social enterprises in Greater Manchester, creating around 127,600 jobs and generating £3.5bn in turnover. Of the £68 million they generate in profit, around £57 million is re-invested in their social missions.
Social businesses find creative ways to solve the issues in our society. They are run by the communities they serve, attracting money into an area and keeping it there. They trade to tackle a wide range of issues such as health and wellbeing, homelessness, the environment, inclusion, access to the arts and much, much more.
Here at GMCVO, we offer affordable and accessible social investment to these organisations to help increase their impact because we understand the incredible impact social businesses have on creating a fairer and more inclusive economy.
This is the fourth in series of portfolios produced by GMCVO on behalf of the Inclusive Economy working group of the GM VCFSE Leadership group, working towards the commitments of the GM VCSE Accord. Parts 1 - 3 demonstrate how the sector is creating an inclusive economy through Community Ownership, a ‘Just Transition’ towards Net Zero and Good Employment.
