On 30 October 2017, Ancoats based charity, The Kindling Trust, launched its sustainable food vision. Containing 125 examples of trailblazing work taking place across the ten GM boroughs, it sets out 26 desired outcomes based on the 'Sustainable Food Cities’ core objectives of:
• Promoting healthy and sustainable food
• Tackling food poverty
• Building sustainable food knowledge and skills
• Promoting a sustainable food economy
• Transforming catering and food procurement
• Reducing Waste and the ecological footprint of the food system.
The Sustainable Food Cities initiative is driven by a cross-sector partnership of local public agencies, businesses, academics and NGOs committed to working together to make healthy and sustainable food a defining characteristic of where they live.
The creation of the vision is the result of 18 months’ work on the part of volunteers, community groups, charities and local businesses so is very much a team effort. The Kindling Trust hopes that the proposals identified will inspire and empower others to work towards the same objectives, leading to sustainable change.
