New inclusive language guidance from the Greater Manchester Equality Alliance (GM=EqAl) shares how we can all be respectful in how we talk and write about important issues related to social class.
The guidance considers different definitions and understandings of social class and some associated terms, highlights appropriate language, inclusive terminology, and notes what should be avoided.
Whilst the guidance doesn’t claim absolute authority on any topic, we hope it will be helpful in helping colleagues across sectors in talking about different issues.
The guidance has been produced by the GM=EqAl inclusive language subgroup following discussion and research and is the twelfth inclusive language guidance that has been published – all of which have undergone a format change to ensure they are easy to read and access.
