New TfGM project to promote cycling and walking

Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) has been awarded a large grant from the London Marathon Charitable Trust to help get more people in Greater Manchester walking and cycling. We want to work with those who encounter more barriers to physical activity including women, children, people from ethnic minorities and less well-off communities to help them travel more actively and increase physical activity levels.

The project is called Cycle and Stride for Active Lives and will run until September 2023.

The project aims to support up to 60 community groups over three years with one or more of the following:

  • Grants which help communities get moving; whether it be for cycle parking, Walk Leader training or access to bikes

  • Guided rides and walks

  • Cycle training to support confidence when riding a bike

  • A website packed full of fun, engaging resources to help yshare the message and inspire others to become active

If you’re part of a community that you know would like to be involved, or know someone who would like to take part, you can register your interest via the link below. Applications to take part will be staggered throughout the three years.

Find out more and register you interest in being involved with the project here.
