Smart Works is a UK charity that provides high quality interview clothing, styling advice and interview training to out-of-work women on low incomes. It helps women to feel confident, succeed at their job interviews and move on with their lives. Last year, the charity opened its fourth office – in Stockport.
The women seen by the charity have very low self-esteem and no smart clothes of their own to wear. They are provided with a complete outfit of clothes and given one-to-one preparation training so they feel more confident and start believing in their own ability to succeed.
The service is provided by fully trained volunteers and stock is donated through other working women or comes direct from the charity’s retail partners.
Since the launch of the Stockport site in June 2015, over 200 women have been helped and of those who have been followed up, over 70 per cent have succeeded in getting a job.
