GMCVO and GM Cancer are looking for experts from VCSE organisations to take part in a range of partnership work with the goal of improving cancer care and outcomes for communities across Greater Manchester. GM Cancer is responsible for the delivery of the Cancer Plan, and has a broad focus, from prevention and early diagnosis to living with and beyond cancer and end of life care.
There have long been significant inequalities in cancer outcomes for marginalised communities and we know that long-standing inequalities have been laid bare in the coronavirus pandemic. This combination creates a real risk of exacerbating inequalities further. We know there are many VCSE organisations supporting marginalised communities, providing all sorts of activities from informal support groups for those living with cancer/receiving cancer treatment, their families and carers to commissioned programmes such as Answer Cancer. We’d like to bring together voices from across the VCSE sector and provide an opportunity for your experience and expertise to influence what happens at a GM level.
We’re particularly interested in hearing from those who would like to take part in conversations about how to increase the rate of early diagnosis of cancer, and anyone with experience of support in relation to the psychological impact of cancer on individuals and their communities. We’re planning to bring together a group of interested people to support each other to design and deliver this work. There is a budget available for expenses.
If you are interested in taking part – please contact firstname.lastname@example.org by 23rd April.
