The Value of Small Community-Led Equalities Research

This evaluation report highlights the need to recognise the value that small community organisations bring as partners in equalities research programmes, and how they can be supported to make the most of their skills and expertise. The report points out that these organisations:

  • Can reach further into marginalised communities

  • Can spread the benefits of microfunding widely in marginalised communities

  • Need practical support, and enough time and funding to cover issues such as translation

  • Benefit from a ‘test and learn’ approach that allows flexibility, creativity and risk-taking

The report contains a range of detailed recommendations for commissioners and others interested in microfunding community organisations to carry out equalities research projects in marginalised communities.

The Equalities Board is run by the LGBT Foundation as part of the GMCVO-led Ambition for Ageing programme
