Hosted by GMCVO since 2013, the GM BAME Network originally started as part of a BASIS Big Lottery Funded project that ran from 2009-2012.
The network is going through a development programme and became an independent organisation in 2023, re-naming itself the GM Ethnic Communities Network CIC. The network continues to work with GMCVO as a supportive partner as it evolves.
Its aim is to provide networking opportunities and better access to knowledge, information and support for Voluntary, Community, Faith and Social Enterprise (VCFSE) sector organisations led by and/or supporting communities who experience racial inequalities across Greater Manchester.
The Network holds regular meetings, working in partnership with Manchester BME Network. Details of upcoming meetings and presentations and papers from previous meetings can be found below.
Why is this work important to GMCVO?
There is a clear continuing correlation between ethnic communities and our most deprived neighbourhoods, and this inequality is reflected in our own sector. The Greater Manchester Ethnic Communities Network aims to redress some of the current inequalities in the VCFSE sector by improving access to support services and providing networking opportunities for organisations who support communities experiencing racial inequality in Greater Manchester.
