GM=EqAl are excited to announce that we are recruiting new members to our Working Group!

Members are selected for their links to marginalised or minoritised communities, enthusiasm for policy influencing, ability to articulate strong challenges to the status quo, and insights into particular issues, problems and solutions. The group is not just concerned with protected characteristics, but with all areas of systemic inequality. You do not have to already be involved in strategic work to apply – we want people from a wide range of backgrounds within the VCSE sector to be involved. We aim to involve individuals who represent a broad range of communities and localities. We are particularly keen to hear from individuals who can represent the following localities and communities, as these are currently underrepresented in our membership:

Localities:

• Trafford
• Salford

Communities of experience and identity:

• LGBTQ+
• Carers
• Particularly disadvantaged young people (for example, care experienced young people)
• Older people
• Those who experience multiple disadvantage (substance use, homelessness, domestic violence/abuse, and/or being involved in the criminal justice system).

GM=EqAl is part of the VCSE Accord which is a three-way collaboration agreement between the Greater Manchester Combined Authority, the Greater Manchester Health and Social Care Partnership and the VCSE sector. GM=EqAl works alongside Accord partners, and all members will have the opportunity to contribute to this work by both attending Working Group meetings and getting involved in other workstreams which you can find out more about here.

The Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman are looking for members of the public and advocacy professionals to join them for in-person Dilemma Cafes on the 13th March in Manchester. Those attending will be asked to share their unique perspectives, opinions and views to help improve their work, and public services.

Working with our portfolio of investees, you will support them through their investment agreements, particularly where they are experiencing difficulty. You will also be responsible for providing monitoring and reporting of the portfolio to funders.

Investment Officer

To support the delivery of our range of investment funds, working with social enterprises, community businesses and trading charities across Greater Manchester to take on social investment.

Joseph Rowntree Foundation has published their annual UK poverty report, which provides up-to-date analysis on the state of poverty across different groups and regions in the UK.

This new report reveals that child refugees who come to the UK alone are facing harassment, abuse and criminalisation as a result of being wrongly treated as adults and placed in accommodation with adult strangers.

In this report, the Runnymede Trust shows how the mainstreaming of far-right ideas and narratives is predicated on the exclusion of communities experiencing racial inequality and is harming UK democracy.
